Administrator credential replacement via self-targeted password reset
Published Mar 21, 2023 · Updated Feb 27, 2025
Business logic error in Apache Answer before 1.0.6 allows remote authenticated users to reset an administrator account password. The UpdateUserPassword method failed to reject requests whose UserID matched LoginUserID, so the administrative reset path accepted a self-targeted update. Administrative privileges and a valid session are required; exploitation replaces the attacker's own administrator credential and preserves account access.
