CVE-2023-1514Network attack vector

Service impersonation via unvalidated TLS certificates

Published Dec 19, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Improper certificate validation in Hitachi Energy RTU500 Scripting Interface 1.0.1.30, 1.0.2, and 1.1.1 allows remote attackers to spoof RTUs. The client accepts a server certificate without validating its parameters, allowing a fake RTU endpoint to be treated as trusted. Exploitation requires a network position that can redirect the client's TLS connection; intercepted scripting messages can be read or altered.
