CVE-2023-1496Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Script execution via external SVG use reference

Published Mar 19, 2023 · Updated Feb 26, 2025

Reflected XSS in imgproxy before 3.14.0 allows remote attackers to execute script in another user's browser through a crafted SVG. The SVG sanitizer in svg/svg.go preserves external href and xlink:href values on use elements, allowing a data URI to reintroduce executable SVG content. Exploitation requires access to the /unsafe/plain endpoint, a response not protected by Content Security Policy, and a user who opens the crafted image URL.
