CVE-2023-1417Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Cross-group epic relationship tampering via unchecked parent ID

Published Apr 5, 2023 · Updated Feb 11, 2025

Authorization bypass in GitLab 15.9 through 15.9.3 and 15.10.0 allows remote authenticated users to link child epics across groups. The epics REST API accepts a user-controlled parent_id when creating an epic without verifying access to the referenced parent epic. An account with an Ultimate license and multi-level epic creation access can alter another group's epic relationships; no confidentiality or availability impact is reported.
