CVE-2023-1409Network attack vector

Untrusted TLS connections via skipped certificate validation

Published Aug 23, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Improper certificate validation in MongoDB Server 4.4, 5.0, and 6.3 allows remote attackers to connect with an untrusted certificate. On Windows and macOS, tlsClusterCAFile is not applied when validating a client certificate, so the server accepts a certificate outside the configured trust chain. The server must use TLS with the affected CA-file option, and the bounded consequence is acceptance of a client certificate outside the configured CA trust.
