CVE-2023-1370Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Application crash via unbounded recursive JSON parsing

Published Mar 13, 2023 · Updated Feb 27, 2025

Uncontrolled recursion in Netplex json-smart before 2.4.9 allows remote attackers to crash an application with deeply nested JSON. JSONParserBase recursively enters array and object parsing for each opening delimiter without limiting nesting depth, exhausting the Java thread stack. Exploitation requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled JSON to the library, and the resulting StackOverflowError interrupts that application process.
