System crash via unvalidated IOCTL buffer
Published Mar 13, 2023 · Updated Nov 22, 2024
Denial of service in TG Soft Vir.IT eXplorer 9.4.86.0 allows local users to crash Windows through a crafted driver request. The VIRAGTLT.sys handler for IOCTL 0x82730088 uses a caller-controlled SystemBuffer without validating it, causing a kernel failure and blue-screen crash. A low-privileged local user must execute code on the endpoint and invoke the installed driver; the demonstrated consequence is a system crash, not data disclosure or modification.
