CVE-2023-1299Network attack vector

Management privilege escalation via unbound workload identity

Published Mar 14, 2023 · Updated Feb 27, 2025

Missing authorization in HashiCorp Nomad and Nomad Enterprise 1.5.0 allows remote authenticated users to gain management privileges. The identity block exposes a workload identity token through the task API, and an identity with no attached ACL policies is incorrectly elevated. Remote authenticated users must hold submit-job ACL capability and submit a task exposing the token, after which management-level cluster access is available.
