CVE-2023-1279Public exploitNetwork attack vector

User redirection via traversal in ref switch endpoint

Published Sep 1, 2023 · Updated Nov 20, 2025

Open redirect in affected GitLab releases allows remote authenticated users to redirect other users to a different project. The /-/refs/switch endpoint combines ref and path parameters without encoding ../ sequences, letting browser path normalization control the Location header. A low-privileged attacker must persuade a user to follow the crafted link; the result is an internal project redirect with low confidentiality impact.
