CVE-2023-1260Network attack vector

Authenticated privilege escalation via SCC admission bypass

Published Sep 24, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Authentication bypass in Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.10 through 4.14 allows remote authenticated users to gain a privileged pod. The SCC admission path revalidates an ephemeral-container update without restricting evaluation to the pod's previously selected SCC, allowing a crafted patch to pass under a more permissive policy. Exploitation requires update and patch rights on pods/ephemeralcontainers, plus access to create a pod or patch an existing pod; these rights are not granted by default.
