Browser-context script execution via unsanitized tag excerpts
Published Mar 7, 2023 · Updated Mar 5, 2025
Stored XSS in Apache Answer before 1.0.6 allows remote authenticated users to run script in another user's browser through a crafted tag excerpt. The GetTagResp.GetExcerpt method derived tag excerpts from unsanitized OriginalText rather than the sanitized ParsedText representation. Exploitation requires an account able to edit tag content and another user to view the stored excerpt; browser-context script can read or alter data available to that viewer.
