Stored script execution via client-rendered comment HTML
Published Mar 7, 2023 · Updated Mar 6, 2025
Stored XSS in Apache Answer before 1.0.6 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in another user's browser. The comment editor parsed user-controlled Markdown with marked.parse and submitted the resulting HTML as parsed_text instead of relying on server-side neutralization. A logged-in attacker must edit a comment and a victim must view the stored comment, enabling script execution in the victim's web session.
