Stored XSS via client-rendered comment HTML
Published Mar 7, 2023 · Updated Mar 6, 2025
Stored XSS in Apache Answer before 1.0.6 allows attackers to execute script in another user's browser through a crafted comment. The Comment component converted edited Markdown with marked.parse and submitted the resulting HTML as parsed_text instead of relying on server-rendered text. Exploitation requires the payload to be saved as a comment and another user to view it, exposing browser-accessible data and actions in that user's session.
