Process crash via unchecked image box offsets
Published Mar 6, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in xiaozhuai imageinfo 3.0.0 through 3.0.3 allows local users to crash a consuming process with a crafted image file. In imageinfo.hpp, the image-box parser trusts attacker-controlled boxSize values when advancing offset and reads a 32-bit box field without confirming that the computed position remains inside the input buffer. Exploitation requires a crafted image to be processed locally, and the demonstrated consequence is a segmentation fault that terminates the consuming process.
