CVE-2023-1157Public exploit

Process crash via unchecked ELF program headers

Published Mar 2, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Denial of service in Finixbit elf-parser allows local users to crash a consuming process by supplying a crafted ELF file. The get_segments method trusts the ELF header offsets and entry count, then iterates program headers without checking that each read remains inside the mapped file. Exploitation requires a local user to cause a consuming application to parse the malicious file; the demonstrated consequence is a segmentation fault, not code execution.
