CVE-2023-1117Network attack vector

Stored XSS via unsanitized thumbnail media names

Published Mar 1, 2023 · Updated Mar 7, 2025

Stored XSS in Pimcore before 10.5.18 allows remote authenticated users to run scripts in another user's browser via thumbnail configuration. The videoThumbnailUpdateAction passes a user-controlled mediaName into thumbnail pipeline output without HTML encoding, while the client accepts unsafe characters. Image/video thumbnail configuration access and a victim opening the poisoned view are required; the script executes in that victim's web origin.
