CVE-2023-1032

System crash via io_uring socket double free

Published Jan 8, 2024 · Updated Aug 27, 2024

Double free in Linux before 6.3-rc2 allows local users to crash the system through an io_uring IORING_OP_SOCKET request. __sys_socket_file() permits its allocation-failure path and the io_uring caller to invoke iput() on the same newly allocated socket inode. Exploitation requires high local privileges and a memory-allocation failure, which a memory-capped cgroup can induce; the resulting BUG_ON crashes the host.
