Stored script execution via unescaped settings fields

Published Mar 27, 2023 · Updated Feb 26, 2025

Stored XSS in Mitchell Bennis Simple File List before 6.0.10 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in browsers. The settings handler stores text-field values such as File Description without sanitizing them and renders those values into form fields without escaping HTML attributes. Administrator access is required, and a victim must interact with a booby-trapped field; the resulting script runs in that victim's WordPress browser session.
