CVE-2023-1017

Code execution via missing command-buffer length check

Published Feb 28, 2023 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Out-of-bounds write in TCG TPM 2.0 revisions 1.19, 1.38, and 1.59 allows local users to execute code in the TPM context. CryptParameterDecryption omits a command-buffer length check, allowing two attacker-chosen bytes to be written beyond the ExecuteCommand buffer. A user-mode application must send a malicious encrypted-parameter command to affected TPM firmware; exploitation can corrupt protected data, crash the TPM, or elevate privileges.
