Browser data exposure via unsanitized site settings
Published Feb 21, 2023 · Updated Mar 12, 2025
Stored XSS in Apache Software Foundation Apache Answer before 1.0.5 allows remote authenticated users to run script through site settings. SiteGeneralReq accepted persistent HTML without sanitization; the fix adds a Bluemonday UGC sanitizer to names, descriptions, URLs, and email. Administrative access to general settings is required, and the payload runs when a browser renders the stored value, exposing browser-accessible data or actions.
