CVE-2023-0842Network attack vector

Object property tampering via prototype replacement

Published Apr 5, 2023 · Updated Dec 3, 2025

Prototype pollution in Marek Kubica xml2js 0.4.23 allows remote attackers to alter parsed-object properties via crafted XML. The parser creates ordinary JavaScript objects and assigns attacker-controlled element or attribute names, so a proto key replaces an inherited prototype. A consuming application must parse attacker-controlled XML; the resulting inherited-property changes can corrupt application logic, while the library exposes no network service itself.
