Privilege escalation via nonce-free capability updates
Published Apr 3, 2023 · Updated Feb 14, 2025
CSRF in BestWebSoft User Role before 1.6.7 allows remote attackers to elevate any WordPress role through an administrator's session. The role editor accepts a crafted POST to its role-update action and applies attacker-selected capabilities without verifying a request nonce. Exploitation requires a logged-in administrator to open attacker-controlled content, after which a targeted role can receive administrative capabilities.
