CVE-2023-0804Public exploit

Process crash via 24-bit crop buffer overwrite

Published Feb 13, 2023 · Updated Mar 21, 2025

An out-of-bounds write in tiffcrop in LibTIFF 4.4.0 allows local users to crash the utility via a crafted TIFF file. The extractContigSamplesShifted24bits function writes 24-bit sample bytes beyond its allocated heap destination while extracting crafted crop regions. The attacker must cause tiffcrop to process the file with crop-region options; the demonstrated consequence is process termination.
