Process crash via crafted TIFF over-read
Published Feb 13, 2023 · Updated Mar 21, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in LibTIFF tiffcrop 4.4.0 and earlier allows attackers to crash the utility by processing a crafted TIFF file. Calls at tools/tiffcrop.c:2903 and 6921 reach _TIFFmemcpy in libtiff/tif_unix.c, where the operation reads beyond a valid buffer. Exploitation requires tiffcrop to process the crafted file; the demonstrated consequence is a segmentation fault that interrupts that process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
