Process crash via incorrect rotation dimensions
Published Feb 13, 2023 · Updated Mar 21, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in LibTIFF tiffcrop 4.4.0 and earlier allows local users to crash the utility with a crafted TIFF file. When only cropped sections are rotated, rotateImage incorrectly swaps the main image width and length, so extractContigSamplesShifted24bits reads beyond the source buffer. Exploitation requires running tiffcrop with the crafted file and specific crop, export, and rotation options; the demonstrated consequence is a segmentation fault that aborts the process.
