CVE-2023-0755Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Unauthenticated code execution via multipart chunk index

Published Feb 23, 2023 · Updated Jan 16, 2025

Out-of-bounds write in PTC ThingWorx Edge C SDK 2.2.12.1052 and earlier allows remote attackers to crash clients or execute code. The mulitpartMessageStoreEntry_Create function allocates a pointer array from chunkCount, then writes at attacker-controlled chunkId minus one without checking that the index is within that array. Exploitation requires a vulnerable client to initiate a ThingWorx WebSocket connection to a malicious server, which can then corrupt the client process and execute code in its application context.
