CVE-2023-0668Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Process crash via unchecked phasor-type index

Published Jun 7, 2023 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in Wireshark 3.6.0 through 3.6.13 and 4.0.0 through 4.0.5 allows remote attackers to crash the process. In dissect_PHSCALE, a packet byte directly indexes the 17-entry conf_phasor_type array without a bounds check, causing an out-of-bounds read. An attacker must inject a malformed IEEE C37.118 packet into captured traffic or convince an analyst to open a crafted trace; the vendor confirms a crash, while code execution remains unproven.
