CVE-2023-0645Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Process-memory disclosure via unchecked EXIF tag pointer

Published Apr 11, 2023 · Updated Jun 29, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in libjxl 0.7.0 through 0.8.0 allows attackers to disclose process memory through a crafted JPEG file. FindExifTagPosition advances an EXIF pointer from a file-controlled offset, then reads the tag count without confirming that two bytes remain in the EXIF buffer. The file must be processed by an application using the affected EXIF handler, and demonstrated execution can crash cjxl.
