Administrator account takeover via unsanitized trace attributes
Published Mar 1, 2023 · Updated Jan 28, 2026
Stored XSS in affected Grafana and Grafana Enterprise releases allows remote authenticated users to run script in an administrator's browser. TraceView renders unsanitized span attribute and resource values when those fields are expanded, allowing an Editor to store script in a dashboard visualization. Exploitation requires Editor access and an administrator to view and expand the malicious trace data; affected branches are 7.0.0 through 8.5.20, 9.0.0 through 9.2.12, and 9.3.0 through 9.3.7, and script execution can change the administrator's password.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=7.0.0 <8.5.21
- Affected versionversion=9.0.0 <9.2.13
