CVE-2023-0591Public exploit

Arbitrary file overwrite via trusted node names

Published Jan 31, 2023 · Updated Mar 26, 2025

Path traversal in UBI Reader before 0.8.5 allows local users to overwrite files outside the extraction directory via a crafted UBIFS image. The extractor trusts dent_node.name, joins it to the output directory without traversal validation, and writes node content to the resulting path. Exploitation requires a user to process the image, and overwrite is limited to files writable by the process.
