Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Feb 21, 2023 · Updated Mar 14, 2025
Stored XSS in GS Portfolio for Envato before 1.4.0 allows remote authenticated users to inject script through a shortcode attribute. The gs_envato shortcode outputs attacker-controlled theme attribute content into page markup without validation or context-appropriate escaping. Contributor-level access is required to save the shortcode, and script executes when another user hovers over the rendered portfolio element.
