Subscriber file disclosure via shortcode path traversal
Published Mar 27, 2023 · Updated Feb 19, 2025
Local file inclusion in WPPOOL WP Dark Mode before 4.0.8 allows remote authenticated users to read server-side PHP files via a shortcode. The parse-media-shortcode AJAX action accepts a wp-dark-mode shortcode whose style attribute supplies a template path without adequate sanitization, enabling directory traversal during PHP template loading. Subscriber access is required; direct traversal works where nonexistent path components are permitted, while other servers require an attacker-created template directory.
