CVE-2023-0437Network attack vector

Application hang via wrapped UTF-8 loop index

Published Jan 12, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Denial of service in MongoDB C Driver before 1.25.0 allows remote attackers to hang an application via crafted BSON input. The bson_utf8_validate function stores size-based indexes in unsigned int variables, allowing a sufficiently large input length to wrap an index and make the loop exit condition unreachable. An application must pass attacker-controlled input to the validator; the resulting loop runs indefinitely without reported data disclosure or modification.
