Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attribute
Published Feb 21, 2023 · Updated Mar 12, 2025
Stored XSS in smgwebdesign Shortcode for Font Awesome before 1.4.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute script via a shortcode. The plugin places the shortcode's set attribute into page output without validation or escaping, so injected event-handler markup persists in an embedded post or page. Contributor-level access is sufficient to store the payload, and execution requires another user to view the affected content in a browser.
