Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Apr 24, 2023 · Updated Feb 4, 2025
Stored XSS in Video Central for WordPress 1.3.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute script in a visitor's browser. The video-central-subtitle shortcode writes its src attribute into page output without validation or context-appropriate escaping, allowing crafted event-handler markup to persist in a post. Contributor-level access is required to store the payload, and execution requires another user to view the affected page or post, exposing that user's site-session data and actions.
