Subscriber-level image category changes via unchecked AJAX actions
Published Jan 13, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in Plugincraft Mediamatic 2.8.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to change image categories via AJAX. The plugin registers its category-changing AJAX actions without a capability check, so WordPress accepts requests from any logged-in account. Subscriber-level access is sufficient, and unauthorized changes alter how media items are arranged in folder views.
