Database data extraction via unescaped shortcode ID
Published Feb 13, 2023 · Updated Mar 21, 2025
SQL injection in WP TripAdvisor Review Slider before 10.8 allows remote authenticated users to extract WordPress database data. The parse-media-shortcode AJAX action accepts a wptripadvisor_usetemplate shortcode whose $tid value reaches an unprepared SQL query without sufficient escaping. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to append SQL and read sensitive database contents without user interaction.
