Stored script execution via unescaped shortcode attribute
Published Mar 6, 2023 · Updated Mar 6, 2025
Stored cross-site scripting in Advanced Recent Posts 0.6.14 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts via a shortcode. The lptw_recentposts shortcode outputs the user-controlled color_scheme attribute without sufficient validation or escaping, so a quote can introduce an event-handler attribute. Contributor access and a post with thumbnails are required; the stored script executes when another user opens the injected page.
