Configuration corruption via constructor.prototype key assignment
Published Nov 26, 2024 · Updated Nov 27, 2024
Prototype pollution in Mozilla Convict before 6.2.4 allows attackers to alter inherited properties via crafted configuration keys. The config.set path filter blocks this.constructor.prototype but accepts constructor.prototype, so assignment traverses into Object.prototype. A malicious key must reach application-controlled configuration code; polluted attributes can corrupt downstream behavior or crash the consuming service.
