Unauthorized label edits via inherited subgroup access
Published Sep 1, 2023 · Updated Nov 20, 2025
Incorrect authorization in affected GitLab releases allows remote authenticated users to alter parent-group label descriptions. The group-label edit route accepts a label ID and permits a subgroup Reporter to edit an inherited parent-group label without edit rights. A subgroup Reporter account and the label ID are required; exploitation changes label text used across dependent groups and projects.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
