Authenticated host privilege escalation
Published Jan 20, 2023 · Updated Apr 2, 2025
Privilege escalation in Tenable Nessus 8.10.1 through 8.15.7 and 10.0.0 through 10.4.1 allows remote authenticated users to gain root or SYSTEM. Tenable states that execution of a specially crafted file triggers the escalation but has not disclosed the affected component or incorrect operation performed on that file. A valid Nessus account and execution of the crafted file on the scanner host are required; successful exploitation grants full host control.
