Remote code execution via Host header spoofing
Published Mar 15, 2023 · Updated Feb 27, 2025
Improper report-path validation in Eclipse BIRT 2.6.2 through 4.12.0 allows attackers to execute commands via a crafted report design. The BIRT Viewer isValidFilePath method compares an attacker-controlled HTTP Host value with the supplied report URL host, then loads a matching remote design whose Rhino script can invoke Java runtime commands. Exploitation requires a default-host or alias configuration that accepts the spoofed Host value, and commands run with the web-server account's filesystem access.
