Contributor-level file read via shortcode path traversal
Published Feb 13, 2023 · Updated Mar 21, 2025
Path traversal in Customer Reviews for WooCommerce before 5.16.0 allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary server files. The cusrev_reviews shortcode passes its comment_file attribute to file inclusion without restricting traversal sequences, so a PHP-bearing upload can execute code. Exploitation requires the shortcode feature to be enabled; contributors can read files, while authors can pair upload access with inclusion for code execution.
