Memory corruption via unchecked libxml2 buffer growth

Published Aug 25, 2026 · Updated Aug 28, 2026

Integer overflow in packaged libxml2 in Sparkle Motion Nokogiri before 1.13.5 allows attackers to corrupt memory via crafted XML. The xmlBuf functions in buf.c and xmlBuffer functions in tree.c grow buffers without checking integer arithmetic for overflow, permitting out-of-bounds writes. The CRuby build must use packaged libraries and parse or serialize XML exceeding INT_MAX bytes; triggering can expose or modify unrelated data or crash the process.
