LocalSystem code execution via unquoted service path
Published Jan 13, 2026 · Updated Jan 13, 2026
Unquoted service path handling in Sandboxie Plus 5.50.2 allows local users to execute arbitrary code as LocalSystem during startup. The SbieSvc Windows service registers its executable path without surrounding quotation marks, so Windows can resolve an attacker-placed executable from an earlier path component. Exploitation requires local file-write access to a searched parent directory and a service start, after which the payload runs with LocalSystem control over the host.
