CVE-2022-50875

Kernel crash via unchecked allocation failure

Published Dec 30, 2025 · Updated Dec 30, 2025

NULL-pointer dereference in the Linux kernel overlay subsystem allows attackers to crash the kernel via unspecified vectors. In drivers/of/overlay.c, find_dup_cset_node_entry() and find_dup_cset_prop() pass a NULL result from kasprintf() to strcmp() without checking allocation success. Public material identifies neither an attacker-controlled route to force allocation failure nor the access needed to reach overlay processing; the bounded consequence is a kernel oops or crash.
