Stack over-read via unterminated firmware clock name
Published Dec 30, 2025 · Updated Dec 30, 2025
An out-of-bounds read in Linux's ZynqMP clock driver causes a stack over-read during device probing when firmware returns a long clock name. The Linux-ATF interface returns a fixed 16-byte SMC payload without a terminating NUL for names over 15 bytes, and zynqmp_clock_probe passes the unterminated stack buffer to strncpy. Reachability requires ZynqMP or Versal hardware and a firmware-supplied long clock name; public records establish the KASAN-detected read but not attacker control or data exposure.
