Storage I/O hang via abort request miscount
Published Dec 30, 2025 · Updated Dec 30, 2025
Denial of service in the Linux pm8001 SCSI driver allows local users to hang storage I/O by disabling a SATA disk's remote PHY. The completion path increments the per-device running_req counter for an internal abort task but never decrements it, so pm8001_dev_gone_notify() waits indefinitely. Triggering the fault requires a pm8001-managed SATA disk and permission to disable its PHY; affected workers remain blocked and storage operations stop progressing.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
