CVE-2022-50786

Kernel panic via uncleared codec context work bit

Published Dec 30, 2025 · Updated Dec 30, 2025

NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel s5p-mfc driver from 3.16 allows local users to trigger a kernel panic. An error response to CLOSE_INSTANCE leaves ctx_work_bits set, so later codec execution selects a stale context and dereferences a NULL pointer. Reachability requires the Samsung S5P multi-format codec driver and a CLOSE_INSTANCE error; successful triggering crashes the host.
