CVE-2022-50785

Local privilege escalation via FSI OCC teardown race

Published Dec 30, 2025 · Updated Dec 30, 2025

Use-after-free in the FSI OCC driver in Linux 5.16 and later affected branches allows local users to corrupt kernel memory. The fsi_occ_submit path accesses occ->buffer while occ_remove can free it, and open file descriptors can outlive the OCC device without a retained device reference. Reachability requires local OCC device or hwmon access on supported POWER systems and concurrent OCC or FSI teardown; exploitation enables kernel-memory disclosure, privilege escalation, or a kernel panic.
